Friends, Neighbors, and Residents of the City of Sunrise,

While serving as your elected City Commissioner since 2013, I have had the opportunity to meet many of the residents and stakeholders in our beloved City.  For those of you who have met me, you know that I am proud to serve as one of your city commissioners.  You also know that I am available to listen and respond to your concerns.  I truly believe that in order to serve you, I need to hear from you.  For those of you who have not already met me, please let me introduce myself.

My wife, Carmen and I chose to move to the City of Sunrise in 2004. We believed it was the perfect city to start a family. We were impressed with the schools, the low crime rate and the shops and restaurants located throughout the city. Shortly after buying our house, we were blessed with the birth of our son, Tomas.

We are a family of faith that is grounded with strong morals and values.  We are parishioners at All Saints Catholic Church.  Our family has been blessed with an abundance of love and health and as a family we believe it is important to give back to the community and the less fortunate.  Not only is our family active in the church we are involved throughout the community. Last year alone our family had over 200 hours of volunteer work.

While living in Sunrise, we have made many new friends and established strong bonds with our neighbors.  My son attends school in Sunrise and has participated in the City's youth athletic programs. I can truly say that we are very pleased with our decision to raise our family in the City of Sunrise.

I am an attorney with a small boutique law firm where I help clients with legal issues in Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach Counties. I earned my law degree from NOVA Southeastern University, Sheppard Broad School of Law.  I graduated with an honors degree in Bachelor of Business Administration with dual majors in Management and Finance from Florida Atlantic University. I received an Associate of Arts degree in Business Administration from Broward Community College.

Now that I have introduced myself please let me explain why I want to be re-elected as commissioner.

First and foremost I do not consider myself a politician.   Prior to being elected in March of 2013, I had never run for any office before.  I prefer to consider myself a father, husband, friend, neighbor, and advocate who simply believes in doing the right thing.

In 2013, I did not run for office to push my own private agenda.  As a proud resident of the City of Sunrise, I was pleased with the service and responsiveness of our Mayor and City Commission.  Through their hard work and oversight, I had had the opportunity of coaching and mentoring our youth through the city’s recreational athletic programs and I was thankful for the opportunity to have served the city through the Leisure Services Advisory Board.

Upon being elected, I served as Deputy Mayor where I immediately took to the task of trying to “Build a Brighter Future” for all of our residents, businesses, employees and visitors in the City of Sunrise.  In order to achieve this task, I participated and attended numerous city events, association meetings, chamber of commerce events, and social clubs to be in touch with the community that I serve.  In addition to attending events, I frequently met with staff, developers, organizations and residents so that I could gain valuable insight to the issues affecting our community.

While serving as Commissioner, I am most proud that I have fulfilled my campaign promises of getting more out of our tax dollars and not more taxes out of our residents.  It was with great pleasure to have contributed to a city budget that was balanced, did not deplete reserves, and did not impose a tax increase on our residents. I was also proud to have supported our local schools by ensuring that School Resource Officers are in every Sunrise School, by recognizing our Teachers in our monthly meetings, and by believing in the "First Move" Chess program which implemented the teaching of chess into the school curriculum.

Many of my other proud moments included passing ordinances that banned the sale of "e-cigarettes" to minors, banning the sales of dogs from "puppy mills", and providing the necessary tools and resources to ensure our police and fire departments are able to provide a high level of service to our community.

It is my continued mission is to work tirelessly to continue to make Sunrise the best place to "Live, Work, and Play."  In order to carry out this mission, I ask that you vote for Neil on November 6, 2018.

Warm regards,

Neil C. Kerch
